Sports Illustrated, the renowned sports magazine, has made a significant move in the realm of digital innovation by relocating its nonfungible token (NFT) ticketing platform, known as “Box Office,” from the Polygon blockchain to Avalanche. This transition comes nearly 10 months after the platform’s initial launch. In a groundbreaking announcement on February 20, SI Tickets revealed a strategic partnership with Ava Labs, the developers behind the Avalanche network.

This collaboration empowers the NFT ticketing platform to leverage the Avalanche blockchain for minting its NFT tickets. Furthermore, Avalanche will play a pivotal role in transforming conventional event tickets into dynamic, interactive assets, enhancing engagement opportunities for attendees. Box Office was initially introduced on the Polygon blockchain in May 2023, enabling event organizers to offer exclusive perks to ticket holders, such as expedited entry passes, beverage vouchers, and pre-event music downloads. NFT ticket holders were also entitled to post-event video content and additional rewards linked to their attendance.
Beyond sports, blockchain-based ticketing presents a plethora of advantages across the live events spectrum, offering event owners enhanced engagement avenues and monetization opportunities through curated content. The integration of blockchain-based tickets not only enriches the event experience for attendees but also unlocks new revenue streams and engagement channels for event organizers, underscoring the transformative potential of NFT technology in the realm of live events.
